Recruitment
CMT United Kingdom does not manage itself, you might be surprised to learn! The organisation is run by a small, but dedicated band of Trustees, the majority of whom have CMT themselves.
Under our Articles of Association, we can have up to 10 Trustees and skilled observers as we deem necessary.
It is always useful to have people as Trustees who have specific skills - these vary, but financal experience is always handy, and of course, fundraising is essential to any charity.
Who can stand as a Trustee?
Firstly, you need to be a member of CMT United Kingdom - under the Articles of Association, Trustees must be members, so if you're not yet, click the "Join Us" button above and join! You do not necessarily need to have CMT to be either a member or a Trustee, although we always aim that the majority of the Board of Trustees shall have the condition.
Apart from that, you must be over 18, and subject to various restrictions - see the application form below for details.
What would I have to do?
You need to be prepared to attend four Trustee meetings per year, currently held at the Hilton Hotel, Coventry, just near Junction 2 of the M6 - meetings are planned for February, June, September and November of next year. Travelling expenses and accommodation/subsistence are paid for by the organisation. Meetings start at lunchtime on Saturday and finish at lunchtime on Sunday. In addition, you are expected to attend the Annual General Meeting and Conference, and any other meetings that may be arranged.
In between times, we communicate on an almost daily basis via email. If you don't have access to your own computer, we will provide a basic model for your use, which remains the property of CMT United Kingdom. We also have regular conference calls, currently one per month between meetings.
The following Job Specification and Code of Conduct sheet will give you more of an insight as to the type of person we're looking for - trustee_job_description_and_code_of_conduct
This Charity Commission publication also gives invaluable information about what is expected of a Trustee.

I'd like to apply - how do I do that?
Complete the application form found below, and send it to the usual address. We will invite you to come to the next Trustee meeting, which is our equivalent of an interview, at which time you will be able to get to know us, and get some idea of what we do and why, and we'll get to know you! If, at the end of the meeting, all parties are happy that we'll get on, and that you have the skills we're looking for, the Board of Trustees will nominate you for election at the next AGM for ratification by the membership. During the year following the AGM, the existing Trustees do have the power to fill vacancies with Trustees with full voting rights, but you would still need to stand for formal election at the next AGM. We do have the power, under the terms of the Articles of Association, to turn applicants down if we do not feel that you have enough to offer us. For more information on the recruitment procedure, please go to the Governance and Finance page in this section of the website, and read the Articles of Association.
