Your consent

Before having any treatment, particularly surgery, you will be asked for your consent (permission). And before giving your permission you need to understand:

what are the percentage success rates (and failures)?

what will happen during the treatment?

why you need it?

what could go wrong?

are there any alternative treatments?

what would happen if you did not have the treatment?

This is called informed consent and is a legal procedure that every medical staff in the UK should follow before giving you treatment. Even after giving your consent, you are within your rights to change your mind
