Gift Aid: an easy way to make your donation go further

Did you know your donation to CMTUK could be worth 25% more, without costing you a penny extra? If you’re a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid lets us do just that.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that lets charities claim back the tax you’ve already paid on your donation. For every £1 you give, we can claim an extra 25p from HMRC. That means a £20 donation becomes £25, and £100 becomes £125, all going towards supporting people living with CMT.

Who can Gift Aid?

You can, if you pay enough UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year to cover the Gift Aid claimed on all your charity donations. This can include people who are retired and pay tax on a pension, savings or investments.

How do I sign up?

Just fill in a Gift Aid declaration form for us. You only need to do it once, and it covers your future donations as well as any you’ve made to CMTUK in the past four years.

You can get a form by:

  • Downloading it here:

Once you’ve filled it in, you can email it back to us at enquiries@cmt.org.uk, or print it and post it to:

CMTUK, 7a Churchill Court, 33 Palmerston Road, Bournemouth BH1 4HN

  • Calling us on 01202 474203

A few quick things

  • Gift Aid only applies to your own money, not money you’ve collected from others.
  • If you’re a higher or additional rate taxpayer, you can claim the extra tax relief yourself through your Self Assessment tax return or by asking HMRC to update your tax code.
  • If you move, change your name or stop paying enough tax, please let us know so we can keep things up to date.

Want to know more?

HMRC has clear, simple guidance for donors:

Thank you to everyone who already supports us with Gift Aid.

If you haven’t signed up yet, it only takes a minute and it really does make a difference to a small charity like ours.
